I am pleased to introduce Jennifer (Jen) Lewis, MS, LPC, BCBA, owner and founder of Newline Behavioral Solutions. Not only does Jen understand the struggles Autism families face through the lens of a clinician; she is also the mother to an exceptional needs child!

Newline Behavioral Solutions is a team of professionals who have dedicated their lives to bettering the lives of families of children with special needs. They specialize in autism therapy, though they are skilled at treating all children that have behavioral issues or deficits in the area of socialization, language, and play.

Empower. While embracing a learner’s strengths, an ABA team custom builds each skill development and behavioral management program with the intention to increase the learner’s overall level of independence in their natural environment. Families also benefit from ABA training because the ABA team provides families opportunities to learn effective strategies, which can lead to decreasing the need for additional supports. The ABA interventions employed in each case, work toward empowering both caregivers and learners to reach their full potential. While some may argue that ABA is restrictive in nature, the reality is ABA provides a person with overall autonomy due to the increase in their level of independence.

Scientific. ABA is associated to the field of psychology and rooted with a strong scientific background-having over 40 years of research to back up the effectiveness of ABA interventions with a focus on the autistic community. In comparison to other types of skill-building and behavioral interventions for autism, ABA has considerable scientific backing. Both the American Psychiatric Association and US Surgeon General have acknowledged ABA as an evidence-based best practice treatment for autism. This data-driven field utilizes only research-based methodologies and is tasked with the overall goal to assist their learners in increasing their skill level in areas such as (but not limited to) functional communication, independent living skills, and positive peer-to-peer relationships. ABA uses science to assist learners to increase their overall level of independence.

Individualized. From start to finish, the ABA treatment approach is individualized for each learner. The trained clinicians understand that no two learners or their families have the same needs. ABA clinicians gain information from a variety of sources, such as conducting assessments, reviewing reports, observing, and interviewing caretakers to assist in laying the groundwork when determining the challenging areas for the learner. Therefore, when each program is designed many factors are taken in consideration and the programming is completely customizable. Additionally, programs are consistently monitored and as the learner progresses the programming does too. ABA is not a “cookie-cutter” approach; the uniqueness of each program helps foster opportunities for increased independence for each learner.
